Smells Like Blackcurrant!

Saturday, 20 March 2010

The other day, Becky over at Instructions Not Included posted about a brilliant soap thing that would help the dodgy diabetic fingers! Now then, as you will see below, after 14 years of Type 1 diabetes and poking my fingers with needles six or more times a day has taken its toll somewhat. I never really thought about it until recently, until I looked down at my fingers and saw the awful callouses and black dots.

I've tried everything to get my fingers somewhat normal, but nothing has seemed to work. Moisteriser seems to fail me, only working on the tops of my hands (the bits that get chapped being a field archaeologist!), but do they help the callouses? Not a bit.

So, after reading what Becky said about this amazing soap "I Snap The Whip", I thought I would give it a try. Everything is worth a try I suppose, and if it doesn't work then I always have a nice smelling soap to use. But when I went into Lush, I couldn't for the life of me remember what the stuff was called. So there I was, scratching my head whilst my other half was pointing out various things that could have been what I was after, but ultimately wasn't. In the end, I asked the young shop assistant if she could help, and there upon started a rather confusing conversations. When I explained that I poked my fingers every day with needles, she understood that I wanted something that would help soften the skin and refresh the cells there and we went through about twenty testers of the most amazing soaps and creams known to human kind! I explained that the stuff was black, and charcoaly and bless her, she spent ages trying to think of what it was I was after.

And then, she ran over to the soap stand and exclaimed "I SNAP THE WHIP! Is that what you're after?" And it was. She let me try it, and I was amazed at how nice it smelt, it's all blackcurrenty and amazing. And as you run your hands over it you can feel the charcoal and exfoliating bits in it. It feels amazing, and it really makes a difference from the get go. It's probably a bit too soon to say, but I like to think my finger tips already feel softer. I guess after a few weeks of using it will be when I can really notice the difference.

But I just wanted to say thank you to Becky for introducing me to this amazing stuff, the shop assistant for helping me out tryng to find it, and of course the people who make bathroom cleaner...cleaning my sink is going to be fun from now on (it turns the water an interesting black/purple colour!)

One things for sure though, come payday I am going back to Lush to pick up some of their handcream! It's proper amazing, and smells gorgeous!

sam, your poor fingers!! :( i hope that stuff works. i was always told never to test on the tips, to reduce the risk of damaging nerves and ultimately losing the feeling in the tips. i always test down the sides of mine.

although i have got a lovely big white scar tissue patches on my middle left finger, guess that's where i always did it when i was younger. let us know how I Snap The Whip gets on!xx
